There's a lot going on...

August is a month when holidays are the biggest focus for many organisations, but accountancy never sleeps (well, sometimes it feels that way) and the institute has been beavering away on your behalf just as hard as it does the rest of the year.

In response to feedback from members, moves are under way to revitalise and expand the IFA’s network of regional district societies, which have been rebranded as ‘branches’; plans are being formulated for an accelerated marketing drive to attract new members, and provide enhanced services to existing members – such as the 2011 regional conference series; the business development team is working hard to publicise and popularise the new IFA qualification in Further Education and Higher Education across the UK – and beyond; while myself and the institute president, Professor David Hunt, are also advancing the IFA cause at home and abroad.

As well as telling you more about what’s going on at the IFA (below), this edition of the monthly e-newsletter should keep members up-to-speed on what’s going on in the world of business, with news on: increases in the bonuses of top directors, businesses not making use of available grants, a group that’s challenging the emergency Budget, and the results of an audit on the BP Deepwater Horizon rig. So hopefully, you’ll be able to make time to read it all, before you set off on your holidays. Enjoy!
