Swings and roundabouts
It’s not an easy time to be an accountant whether you are in commerce and industry, practice, or the third sector, but there are signs that the profession is feeling increasingly optimistic – as you will see when you read the news items in this IFA e-newsletter.
Finance directors are now more focussed on growth than the prospect of a double dip recession, and many UK businesses are looking overseas for growth, and research indicates that confidence is re-entering the jobs market for professional accountants and trainees. There is even some good news from the tax man: HM Revenue & Customs has plans to become more efficient, effective and flexible, and the government’s newly formed Office of Tax Simplification is promising fewer and less complicated tax rules.
So, while you can still look forward to a hectic self-assessment season, a winter of strikes and demonstrations, the prospect of 20 per cent VAT, and the challenge of the new online Corporation Tax filing regime, you can also look forward to some more positive developments. Perspective is everything.
